AOP Domfront

DomfrontThe capital of perry

Perry Domfront has always been a point of pride for the Norman terroir. This sparkling beverage, the fruit of ancestral farming expertise, has spanned centuries while preserving its authenticity and unique character.

In 2002, this lively tradition received the recognition it deserves: The “Appellation d’Origine Protégée” (AOP/PDO) Domfront came to frame its production and guarantee criteria of rigorous quality.

Rooted in the Domfront region, at the heart of the Orne, this perry tells a story; one of a granitic soil, centenary pear trees and carefully passed down techniques. Each year, producers harvest fruit from these majestic trees and perpetuate an art deeply linked to nature with precision and respect.

AOP Domfront Criteria

AOP Domfront perry is born exclusively within a strictly defined area covering about forty municipalities across the Orne, Mache, and Mayenne departments. In this corner of Normandy, nature plays an essential role.

The granitic subsoil provides the pears with a singular aromatic richness. At the same time, the temperate oceanic climate allows the pear trees to flourish fully. Thanks to this unique environment, producers elaborate a perry with remarkable fineness.

AOP Domfront perry is also distinguished by its alcohol content, which meets precise requirements:

  • Acquired alcohol content: Over 3% vol.
  • Total alcohol content: Over 5.5% vol.

A subtle balance that gives vivacity and lightness to this beverage.

It all begins exclusively with high stemmed orchards, where pear trees, often centenary, offer their fruit after a natural fall, a sign that they have reached perfect ripeness. There is no rushing the process: fermentation is natural and slow, with no external additives.

The effervescence is achieved through simplicity: neither pasteurization nor gasification is permitted. Only the bubbles resulting from natural fermentation give Domfront Perry its natural and delicate fizz.

How to pair it?

At first glance, the Domfront perry charms with its pale yellow to golden hue, both luminous and refined reveals a delicate bouquet, blending fruity aromas with floral touches.

In addition, its invigorating freshness highlights a beautiful balance between acidity and sweetness. Finally, a hint of astringency subtly concludes the tasting, adding relief and personality to this exceptional perry.

Thanks to its finesse and freshness, AOP Domfront perry is a wonderful accompaniment to:

  • Fruity desserts, such as apple tarts, fruit salads or caramelized perry stir fry.
  • Chocolate desserts, particularly those with light and subtle notes, shuch as a dark chocolate fondant or a chocolate mousse.
  • Seafood, pairs with exquisite finesse with oysters and scallops
